Freight Expeditors, Inc. was founded in 1986 by Don & Patricia Roberts, as a small family owned business with 10 company trucks. In 1989 their daughter Julie began her career with the company, originally in accounts payable/receivable and payroll, but quickly transferred into the dispatch department. In 1992 she left the company, but returned in 1995 as Dispatch & Transportation Supervisor. In 1993, Patricia Roberts assumed full ownership of the company, and through much perseverance in a predominately male industry, expanded Freight Expeditors Inc into a highly successful transportation company. In 1994, Jeanne, their youngest, entered the family business in the accounting department. Their son Johnny, was involved with the company as an independent contractor, leasing as many as eight trucks to Freight Expeditors, throughout his time with the company.
In 2006, Patricia, at age 73, decided it was time to semi-retire and turned over the business to her and Don’s three children. She continued to work part-time until she fully retired in 2013. In 2006, Julie & her husband Erik, purchased her siblings shares of the company obtaining ownership of Freight Expeditors Inc. Julie stepped up to the role of President, while still running the entire transportation & customer service department & dispatching over 40 drivers.
Under Julie & Erik’s leadership and insight into the direction of containerized trucking, they concentrated company finances and interests towards heavy haul & super chassis work. This was a key decision, as the company has derived huge success in this niche of the market and has many dedicated & loyal accounts.
In 2016, Julie hired and trained key knowledgeable team members to operate the dispatch & transportation office in Kent. In 2021, she removed herself from the transportation office, which has allowed her to direct her full attention to management decisions. Jeanne continues to be a vital part of the company as our Administrative Director, supervising the accounting department and employees in the Milton office. As our Safety Director, Erik continues to coordinate all maintenance, repairs, insurance & safety issues for the fleet. He maintains high standards for hiring of drivers and independent contractors.
We have excellent driver loyalty which is reflected in up to 30 years of service. We pride our company on being very family oriented. Each year we have a summertime picnic, as well as a holiday party in December where drivers are acknowledged with tokens of appreciation and awards.
